How to dress business casual and nail your smart office style

Workplace dress codes are becoming increasingly more relaxed, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t keep up with the latest trends and look incredibly sharp. Read on for business casual style tips and must-have pieces worth investing in.

1)      Focus on the Fit. The key to looking smart is how a garment sits on the figure of your body. Nothing destroys an outfit more than an ill-fitting jacket, shirt and trousers. Pay close attention to the width of your shoulders, the arch of your back and sleeve length of your garments- invest in having these things tailored to your correct size.

2)      Build with basics. A man should have the classic essentials when building his wardrobe- suits in solid shades of navy and charcoal grey. For men’s shirts there are only 3 colours; white, blue and white. A jacket. A nice fitting pair of jeans. Start from here and then anything is possible!

3)      Shoes. The dress shoe classics are safest when it comes to footwear. Loafers, Oxfords, Derbies, Brogues, and Monk Straps will all look elegant in the office. For quality, leather is best and stick to black, brown, and tan when choosing colour. The only thing a man should match these days is his belt and shoes.

Final words, make sure, you wear the suit- it doesn’t wear you! Italian styling describes this as “sprezzatura” – a certain nonchalance, so as to conceal all art and make whatever one does or say appear to be without effort and almost without any thought put into it.
